Use:

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the cause of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). This test is used to screen for and diagnose HIV infections.

Recommended For:

Anyone who wants to find out if they have been exposed to HIV. The most common cause of HIV infection is having unprotected sex with an infected person. It can also be spread through sharing drug needles or coming into contact with the blood of an infected person. Women can pass the virus to their babies during pregnancy and childbirth. 

Swollen glands and flu-like symptoms are often the first signs of early infection. Early treatment for HIV is important to staying well after you have been infected with the virus.

Includes:

  • Human immunodeficiency virus antibody
  • p24 antigen

Preparation:

There is no preparation for this test.

Test Processing:

2-4 days
